The only legit 30-pound-plus salmon we’re aware of caught on Lake Michigan this year is this 31.68-pounder caught this morning off Algoma by 19-year-old Nate Olin of Somerset, Wisc. Nate was fishing with his grandfather, Dave Olin of Stillwater, Minn. when the giant smacked a spoon. The fish was weighed on the same scale used for the K/D Salmon Tournament, but is not the leader in the Shanty Days contest as the anglers hadn’t entered. This cell phone photo does not do the monster justice! The girth on this fish was incredible. It was a stocked fish, as evidenced by the missing adipose fin.
