Cheers to 30 Years! is the theme for our 2016 Shanty Days Celebration!

Shanty Days “Celebration of the Lake” is a three-day, fun-filled family festival that takes place on the Lake Michigan shore in Algoma, Wisconsin.  Huge parade, juried arts and crafts fair, food, music, 5K, street fair, fireworks, beach volleyball, book sale, fishing contest and more! Your perfect summer weekend!

All events, hours and fees are subject to change.

Note:  Dogs are allowed neither on the Main Grounds nor on Crescent Beach.  While leashed dogs are permitted in all other public areas during Shanty Days, please be mindful of the large crowds and the affect that the heat can have on your pooches.  We wish everyone to be safe and have an enjoyable weekend.


 2016 Main Grounds Hours and Fees (subject to change):
*Wristband required for ages 12 and up.  At the Gate:  $10  Valid Friday – Sunday
Sunday only:  $5 at the gate only

Main Grounds Hours:
Friday, August 12, 2016,  3pm – Midnight
Saturday, August 13, 2016, 11am*-Midnight
*Parade special: No main grounds entrance fee on Saturday, 11am-3pm.
A wristband is required for entry or re-entry after 3:00pm on Saturday.
Sunday, August 14, 2016, 11am-9pm

Arts and Crafts Fair and Street Vendor Fair Hours –  FREE!  No Wristband required.
Saturday,  August  13, 2016, 10am – 5pm
Sunday, August 14, 2016, 10am – 4pm

The Juried Arts and Crafts Fair is located on the lawns of the Algoma Public Library and Algoma Elementary School (corner of Fremont and 4th Streets).  Fremont St. is closed off for two blocks west of 4th Street (Route 42) for leisurely browsing of all the wonderful items available for sale.

The Street Fair is located across 4th Street from the Arts and Crafts Fair on Fremont where you will be able to peruse stands selling everything from spices to t-shirts.  Fremont St. east to 2nd St. (County S)  toward the Main Grounds is also closed for your convenience.

Parking is free throughout town and all the venues are within walking distance of each other.  Please observe parking zone and traffic rules.  There will be a lot of pedestrians in the area.  Law enforcement will be directing traffic at peak times.  Thanks!

The 2016 Shanty Days Honoree Is Mary Nelson

The Shanty Days Committee is thrilled to announce the return of an Honoree.  The 2016 Shanty Days Honoree is Mary Nelson.   Mary has been instrumental to the success of Shanty Days since the beginning and we are thrilled to recognize Mary’s time and dedication.

The 2016 Mayor’s Honoree Luncheon was held Friday, August 12, 2016 at Hotel Stebbins, 201 Steele Street in Algoma.

Buttons And Event Shirts

Commemorative Buttons and t-shirts are available at the Algoma Area Chamber of Commerce tent right inside the north entrance of the Main Grounds.

Commemorative Buttons= $1.00

Adult sizes = $12
Youth sizes = $10

Three t-shirt designs are available. The pistachio green shanty and charcoal grey lighthouse are in adult sizes only, S – 3XL.

The emojis come in red or royal blue youth sizes S – L and black adult S – 2XL.

Car Cruise and Show ~~ Saturday, August 13, 2016

Car Cruise starts at Olson Fabrication on Perry Street at 11:30, where you will see all your favorite classic and souped up cars drive through town hitting the parade route right before the parade starts.

Car Show: The cars will be on display behind the Youth Club (just east of the Shanty Days grounds) where you can browse until 3:00pm and even get to chat with some of the owners.

At 3:00 pm the cars will leave the Youth Club Parking lot to start their 2nd cruise through town then back to Olson Fabrication. FREE

One of the Area’s Largest Parades!  ~~ Noon on Saturday


One of Wisconsin’s largest parades begins with a spectacular car cruise. Enjoy floats, entertainment, clowns, candy and more! Great fun for the whole family! Get your seat early and enjoy the sites and sounds of great family fun!  FREE

Parade Registration:  Parade registration deadline was NOON on Wednesday, August 10, 2016.  No fee to participate in the parade but registration is required.  Awards announced shortly after parade has finished.  Parade entrants will check-in and get your line-up number at the City Garage on Jefferson Street (Route 54) from 9:30am – 11:00am on Saturday morning.  Parade starts at NOON on Saturday.

Fireworks over Lake Michigan ~~ Dusk on Sunday

The weekend festival ends on Sunday at dusk with a glorious Fireworks display over the lake.  Are fireworks some of your favorite childhood memories?  Grab your lawn chair or blanket and head to the beach. Be wowed by the beautiful display while making some new memories with your family and friends. FREE


Stop by the Main Grounds and satisfy your every food craving!  From gyros to fried dough to corn on the cob, grilled burgers and jambalaya – you won’t leave hungry!  A wide variety of beverage options are also available.

In the Arts and Crafts area you can stop by the Optimist Booth for the popular foot-long hot dog.  You will also find fresh squeezed lemonade and a fan-favorite: roasted almonds and pecans.

In the Street Fair area, you can’t pass by the kettle corn booth without having a taste!

A Shanty Days weekend favorite breakfast destination is the Algoma Fire and Rescue Porkie Pancake breakfast! Just $6.00 for adults, (all you can eat), children ages 6-12 are $5.00, and 5 & under eat free.

Stop down to the Algoma Fire Station, 400 3rd Street in Algoma from 7:00am – Noon, Sunday, August 14, 2016. It is delicious and always a lot of fun!

craftsmall Arts N Crafts Exhibits/ Street Fair Vendors ~ Sat: 10am-5pm,  Sun: 10am-4pm Enjoy the leisurely stroll of shopping over 150+ vendors for unique and fun wares and handcrafted one of a kind juried art show items. Something for everyone on your shopping list, including yourself.  FREE – no wristband required to browse the Street Fair and Arts N Crafts areas.

Shanty Days More on the Shore 5K Walk/ Run is part of the Titletown Wellness Series ~~ Sat 8am

Race results will be available here after the race.

You can pickup your packets or register for the Run Friday, August 12, 3 – 6pm  and Saturday, August 13, 6:30am-7:30am at the Algoma Youth Club.

The Algoma Shanty Days 5K starts and finishes at the Algoma Farm Market Kitchen with a view of the river and Lake Michigan.  Race through town past historic Von Stiehl Winery, catch a glimpse of the last 2 remaining shanties and by traveling downhill along the beautiful Lake Michigan shoreline to the finish! The race includes a t-shirt, chip-timing, post race refreshments, and same day race results.

The Algoma Shanty Days Kids Fun Run is a non chip-timed event for children ages 9 and under. The route circles around the Algoma Shanty Days grounds, with a start and finish at the Farm Market Kitchen. Each registered participant gets a t-shirt and a participation ribbon. Superheroes join the race and the kids have a Super-Fun time! Bring your camera!

A portion of the proceeds of the 2016 Algoma Shanty Days 5K, will be used to support the Kewaunee County Food Pantry.

booksmall Book Sale ~~ Fri. 8am-4pm Get a bargain on 100’s of books, CDs, DVDs and more for sale by the Algoma Library Friends. On the Library lawn on the corner of Fremont and 4th St. FREE.  Books are priced to sell.  
kidsmallKid’s Area ~~ Main Grounds Located on the north side of the main grounds, kids will enjoy bouncy houses, face painting, ice cream and more.

There is a separate charge for the Kid’s Area wristband:  $10 for unlimited time for the entire weekend.  This is payable at the Kids Area on the Main Grounds. The Kid’s Area is scheduled to be open Friday, 4:00pm-8:00pm, Saturday, 1:00pm – 8:00pm and Sunday, 1:00pm – 5:00pm.  $ 

Sunday Ecumenical Service Grab your lawn chair and come enjoy the tranquility by the lake as you join us for an Ecumenical church service Sunday morning, 7a.m. at Heritage Park. All are welcome! FREE  

Battle on the Beach Volleyball Tournament The Third Annual Shanty Days Battle on the Beach Co-Ed Beach Volleyball Tournament will be held Saturday August 13, 2016 during the three-day celebration of the lakeshore in Algoma, WI.

Free to watch, fee to enter.

What would a Shanty Days event be without fishing!  The 2016 contest begins  Thursday morning, August 11 and ends Sunday, August 14 at 10 a.m., with awards/draw prizes at 10:30 a.m. at the Algoma Marina pavilion. Weigh-ins are 9-10 a.m. and 8:30-9 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday at the Algoma Marina fish cleaning station and 9-10 a.m. Sunday at the Algoma Marina pavilion.

Tickets are available at Algoma BP, Algoma Marina and Capt. K’s.

Cost: $10 for age 18 and up, $5 for age 16-17 and $3 for age 15 and under.

Five categories of salmon and trout for the lake, and kids bring in panfish and bullheads. Prizes include cash, gas cards and tackle, and are based upon participation. We have categories for men, women, boys and girls.  Random draw prizes after the awards among all ticket-buyers.

Thursday – Friday – Saturday WEIGH-INS:
9-10:00 a.m. and 8:30-9:00 p.m. at Algoma Marina Fish Cleaning Station

Sunday WEIGH-IN:
9:30-10:00 a.m. at Algoma Marina Pavilion

All entrants will be included in a random drawing; no need to register a fish, but anglers must be present or have a designated representative to claim random draw prizes. All prizes awarded beginning at 10:30 a.m. Sunday.

Open Division (age 18 and over, $10; ages 16-17, $5):
Cash and prizes will be awarded in men’s and women’s divisions for chinook salmon, coho salmon, rainbow trout, brown trout and lake trout; boat or pier.

Youth Division (15 & Under, Boat and Shore categories, $3 each):
Boat division is for salmon and trout reeled in by the youth; shore division is for panfish and bullheads caught by the youth.

All anglers in the boat must have tickets (exception: charter captains and first mates don’t need tickets unless they want to weigh their own “fun-run” fish). $
